Custom Jewellery Design Process in Hamilton
You don't need a finished idea. You need a conversation. Laura Tedesco Jewellery Design will guide you from the first design to the final reveal, translating your story into a one-of-a-kind piece designed to last for generations.
Designed to Feel Personal
Creating custom jewellery should feel exciting, not overwhelming. You'll never be expected to know all the answers before you arrive. Instead, we help uncover what matters most and translate it into a design that feels authentically yours.
Six Steps from First Conversation to Finished Heirloom
Custom design is available by appointment, Tuesday through Saturday, allowing each piece our full attention. Here's what to expect at every stage.
#1: Personal Consultation
We start with one-on-one conversation in our Hamilton studio where we sit down together and talk about what your piece means to you, who it's for, and what inspires you.
#2: Discovery and Idea Development
If you already have a clear vision, this is when we refine it together. If you're starting from scratch, we explore options with questions about style preferences, lifestyle, and the story behind the piece.
#3: Concept Creation
We create detailed 2D designs drawn to life-like scale or 3D renderings, depending on the complexity of the piece. You’ll see what your jewellery will look like before any material is cut.
#4: Material and Stone Selection
Choosing the right diamond, gemstone, or metal is a deeply personal decision. We guide you through our selection of stones and fine metals, so you know why each choice suits your design.
#5: Crafting the Piece
On average, a custom piece takes three to four weeks to complete, though more intricate designs may require additional time. This is where artistry meets expertise, and no detail is overlooked.
#6: The Final Reveal
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. Your completed piece is presented to you in our studio. What began as a conversation is now something you can hold in your hand!
Repurposing and Redesign: Giving Inherited Pieces New Life
Heirloom Transformation
A ring from your mother, earrings from your grandmother, and a bracelet that no longer suits your style. Rather than leaving sentimental pieces unworn in a drawer, we can combine multiple family items into a single new design that honours their history while fitting your life today. Gemstones are carefully removed, assessed, and incorporated into a fresh setting. The emotional value stays; the outdated design doesn't. Many of our most meaningful commissions have started with a shoebox of inherited jewellery and ended with a piece that made an entire family smile.

When Custom Design Is Right for You
Custom is the right choice when you want something no one else will have, when you're working with inherited stones or sentimental materials, or when you've searched retail stores and nothing quite fits. It is not the right fit if you need a piece within days or prefer to choose from existing inventory. Key factors include your timeline (allow six to ten weeks from consultation to completion), your comfort with a collaborative process, and your desire for a piece with personal meaning. If you value craftsmanship over convenience, this process was designed for you.
More than a Finished Piece
Long after the design ideas are approved and the final reveal is complete, what remains is the meaning behind the piece. A custom engagement ring becomes part of a family's history. A redesigned heirloom carries memories into a new generation. A personal commission becomes a reminder of a moment worth celebrating.
That's what makes custom jewellery different. It's not created to sit in a display case or follow a trend. It's designed around your story, crafted to last, and made to be treasured for years to come.
